Update the SEO properties of a page

Have you ever posted a link to a page on your website on a social platform, only to discover that the title, description, or image in the website preview doesn't meet your expectations? Alternatively, have you observed inaccurate titles or descriptions when your website's pages appear in Google's search results?

Good news: you can change that yourself from the CMS!

Requirements

  • Make sure you have access to the CMS.

Each CMS entry is equipped with an "SEO" tab. Within this tab, you'll discover a minimum of three fields that provide you with the ability to customize how your page appears in social media previews and search engine results pages.

  • Title: This text is visible when the URL of this page is shared on social media and within search results.
  • Description: A limited-length text displayed when the URL of this page is shared on social media and within search results.
  • Image: This image is exclusively shown when the URL to this page is shared on social media.
  • Keywords: Please note that this information may not be available in your CMS instance as it no longer influences SEO in contemporary practices.

👀 Keep in mind that Google and other search engines may occasionally disregard the title and description you set in the CMS. Instead, they often autonomously determine the most effective title and description based on the performance of comparable content on other websites, geographical preferences, and your personal search history.

Troubleshooting

If you've updated one information within the SEO tab and don't see it reflected when you share a link to your page on social networks, this is because social networks only update the information that they have on your page from time to time. It can sometimes take weeks before they update the information that they've cached.

You can force them to refresh their cache though, via debugging tools or instructions that each social network provides:

  • for Facebook, paste your URL in their Sharing Debugger and click on the "Scrape again" button 2/3 times, until you see the updated information
  • for Twitter/X, follow the instructions listed in their documentation
  • for LinkedIn, paste your URL in their Post Inspector and click on the "Inspect" button 2/3 times, until you see the updated information
